There are so many great things happening at Emplume™ headquarters & all of them will be shared with you very soon! But first I’m dying to share this uber exciting bit!

You all know about Style Me Pretty right? It’s tag line “Obsessions for Brides” says it all.  A-ma-zing weddings from all over are featured there for brides ( & wedding lovers) to get super inspired by the beauty which is constantly on display here. Brides can also create inspiration boards and post them to share with everyone too. So Style Me Pretty has created a project called ‘Inspiration to Reality’ which allows wedding vendors from anywhere to come together as a team to make one of these inspiration boards a reality.  We were honored to be invited by our Detroit neighbor Tifany from Gourmet Invitations to be a part of the project: From Inspiration to Reality: The Design, II

First- here’s the fabulous inspiration board submitted by Chiara:

Feathers and Fur

For the Las Vegas Desert Romance theme based on this “Fur & Feathers” inspiration board Shannon and I created a really special brides bouquet and boutonniere to match. The Inspiration Board has beautiful warm fur elements and worn smooth leather details with ‘just right’ sparkle and, of course, the bold sexy color in the peacock-eye feather and bridesmaid dress which we love. We arranged a simple composition of our gorgeous signature feather flowers© with crystal rhinestone centers. Faux-leathery leaves are glam’ed up with shimmering bronze and copper-glitter trims the perimeter of the bouquet. We then finished in a satin ribbon handle, peacock sword feathers and crystal sprays, each in the fabulous bold teal color. Finally to fully honor the “Aviator” / Vegas Desert theme, the bouquet handle is embellished with a crisscross detail of leather lacing. We named this amazing bouquet  Ginger© 🙂

These are a few of our favorite photos from the shoot by the so so talented Chelsea Nicole.  You can see the full photo gallery here!

So awhile back I blogged about my brother-in-law and his soon to be wife – and yes – very soon to be! I can hardly believe the wedding is less than 2 months away. It seems like just yesterday that they announced their engagement.

I posted a bit about their beliefs and ‘rules’ and what our plans were going to be to make a fabulous eco-chic, vegan, rule-following wedding and reception.

Instead of a normal bridal shower  – we opted to have a wedding ‘craft’ party. All of the ladies in the family came over to the Emplume studio and worked on various crafts that would be used in the decor for the wedding. This was a great idea since we all needed to get to know one another but also because Kim has rules on what and where she buys things.. and most of us would have no idea where to get any of that stuff as gifts for her shower!

So far – the only money that has been spent specifically for the decor of the wedding is $25.00 for the awesome Martha Stewart paper punches and pearl corsage pins we bought from Michael’s. I was inspired to create her bouquet from ALL recycled paper after seeing this page in Martha Stewart Weddings.

Thanks for the awesome idea Martha!

Who would have thought recycled paper could be so glam?!!

I just have to list how we pulled this off, because everyone in both families has joined in the eco efforts! Kim’s grandmother had all of the assorted mason jars used to hold candles. The jars were decorated by the ladies at the craft party with my many spools of assorted ribbon left over from previous projects.  The paper flowers were punched out of multiple colors of shipping paper (sent around bolts of fabric) and 1 fabulous piece of green wrapping paper given to me by a friend.  It took many hours of toil by my mother-in-law, Aunt Linda, Grandma V, and my husband to punch and cut out all of the necessary flowers. The tree stumps were spotted by my mother-in-law at the side of the road, picked up by my father-in-law, and cut into rounds by Uncle Wally! The cans/table numbers (not shown here, but the idea was on the previous vegan post) were the contribution of Bebe, my french bulldog. We recycled them from her food – and Kim’s grandfather is nice enough to take on the task of punching in all of those many, many holes. The tree branches were a lucky find in the vacant lot next to my house. Someone had cut down a flowering tree and left it…when I spotted it walking Bebe…my husband was immediately sent out to cut of the branches, which will be put into the large glass vases we have used for my sister Emilie’s wedding (also a previous post, in case you are wondering)

OK. so enough about us and how great we all are at gathering recycled stuff. On to the photos…

picture this with natural soy candles.. not the leopard substitutes!

I must also mention that Tom and Kim printed their own wedding invitations and did a great job matching it with our theme. They of course used recycled paper… I promise to post the links to all of our vendors and suppliers when I post the photos AFTER the wedding!

I can hardly wait to see all of the elements together at the actual wedding! Thanks to everyone who has helped with all of these details! We could not have done it without the family effort!

So I am sure that some of you are going to wonder what in the world I am talking about with this post. Let me explain!… My brother -in-law and his long time girlfriend are engaged, and planning a wedding on March 26th, 2010. Obviously from the title of this post you can make the deduction that they are vegan… and we fondly refer to them as the ‘the vegans’. What is funny is that they probably don’t even know we call them that… but it fits and of course we say it with love!

So when they got engaged – Tom and Kim asked me to help with the planning of their wedding. Of course I was so happy to oblige, but was unsure what I was in for! Being that they are vegan and very into animal rights (they both work in this field and have received accolades and awards for their hard and tireless work)… there were obviously going to be some rules to follow in planning the big event. I knew this would not be a typical wedding – and not even a typical Emplume wedding! (bling and sparkle don’t really fit here!)

I thought it would be fun and interesting to follow along some of the planning process since I am determined to make this the most fabulous, eco-chic, recycled wedding anyone has ever seen! Just because we are using unusual, green, recycled, and handmade items, it does not mean that it has to be hippy-dippy. No offense to all of you natural people out there!

SO… here we go!

The first item that we had to address was the dress! Kim does not want a traditional gown, and did not want to use the typical fabrics associated with wedding gowns, so we spent a bit of time looking into eco friendly and fair trade gowns, with no real success. Has anyone ever looked for a hemp wedding gown? If you do find them, they can be very expensive, look like a sack, and should be worn with my most hated shoe (yes… there is actually a shoe that I hate!) of all – BIRKENSTOCKS! So – I was not having it. Again – just because we are eco conscience – we do not have to be granola-ey! I have decided to make Kim’s gown. I know it will be so gorgeous and eco-glam (updates to come!) We found the fabric at Near Sea Naturals and off we went. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Other Hemp and eco friendly wedding gowns (that are not sack-like!…) can be found at rawganique.com , threadheadcreations.com, Conscious clothing, and Wholly Jo. (At Wholly Jo, you can actually design your own gown by choosing from a variety of on-line options!)

Kim emailed me after I first published this post – and thought it would be a good idea to add  the link to Blue Planet Wedding.com. This site is a great resource for all things ‘green’ wedding! Plus there are links to sites that sell previously used wedding gowns (not necessarily silk-free – one of our rules!) but… a large part of being environmental is of course re-using! Check out their list of 95 ways to make your wedding more environmentally friendly!

We also had a hard time with the shoes. Of course we always come back to the shoes! And you know I cannot make those – so we settled on some really awesome ones below from Beyond Skin– they totally fit into the ‘rules’ and they are beautiful as well! Plus- don’t you just love that cute floral lining?

So now we are talking about the decor. As usual I looked to one of our favorite blogs – 100 layer cake. They are a great resource for DIY and green wedding projects. I just love the idea below with the recycled tin cans! We are planning to incorporate both of these ideas in our colors for the tabletop. Thanks 100 Layer Cake and the brides who submitted these ideas!

100lc_diy-tin-can3jars_4So check back for my progress on’ the vegans’ wedding! Any of you DIY or green brides that have great eco and recycled ideas… please email me or post them in the comments section – We would love to hear about them all!
